NGSS Deep Dive, Part 2
Next Generation Science Standards represent a huge leap in science education in American schools. But what are the standards, and how do they fit into day-to-day instruction? This special two-part series, hosted by STEAM Universe and featuring some of the leading voices in NGSS, will dive deep into the standards and cover specific issues and the use of tech-based curriculum.
Hosted by STEAM Universe Editor-in-Chief David Nagel, these webcast series will feature:
- Joseph Krajcik, who led the Physical Science Design Team in the development of NGSS and was one of the lead writers for the NGSS physical science standards. Krajcik is a professor of science education at Michigan State University and the director of the Create for STEM Institute. He’s also been a high school chemistry and physical sciences teacher.
- Cathie Norris is a Regents Professor and Chair in the Department of Learning Technologies, School of Information at the University of North Texas.
- Elliot Soloway is an Arthur F. Thurnau Professor in the Department of CSE, College of Engineering, at the University of Michigan.
On April 9th,we will focus teacher learning in NGSS. We will describe how we use the Collabrify Roadmap Platform to support teachers in developing an understanding of the scope and sequence and NGSS-alignment of Health in Our Hands, a middle school curricular unit that connects the science classroom to the community to give middle school youth and adults an understanding of modern concepts in genetics.
